How can a custom expression be created when the name of a column contains square brackets?
e.g. description_[category]

Try renaming the column in Admin > Data Model.
Otherwise I don’t see any other way than changing that at the database level - example with a view.
I’m sure you’re going to have problems in several programs with columns containing special characters.
