Advantages of setting a field type

Hello,

a simple question regarding the magic behind field types in the data model:
What are the advantages of setting specific field types?

For example, what is the difference between “price” / “income” / “score” / “no special type” on a integer field ? What does it affect ?

Is it wrong or has negative affects to not define a special type for a field?

But the different Field Types are used for formatting, auto visualization selection and for x-rays.
