Disabling view_log table entries

Hi! I understand that view_log table's entries are logged via metabase's logging capabilities. Please let me know if I've understood it wrongly.

Trying to these entries off, we're thinking of using custom logging log4j2.xml file with these contents only:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

Would this entirely disable the logging/ writing into the view_log table? thank you for your kind assistance to anyone!

You can't disable the application from inserting in the "view_log" table

log4j2.xml is for changing the logging of the application (if it logs to stdout or to a file, etc)

sorry should have been clear -

the entire config should be here:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<Console name="STDOUT" target="SYSTEM_OUT" follow="true">

<!-- Exclude the view_log logger -->
<Logger name="metabase.events.view-log" level="OFF"/>
<Root level="INFO">
<AppenderRef ref="STDOUT"/>

Hey Luiggi, can you please help we are not getting entries in view_log table post migration to mysql 8. How we can check questions usage?

you need to move to Pro or Enterprise, this is a change we did recently to:

  1. make Metabase analytics usage way better than before
  2. expose the data model in a consistent way
  3. make everything faster

Thanks !!!
Is there is any alternative solution to get this information. We need to find the questions which are not in use for a long time to archive them.

There are several ways, a reverse proxy, a trigger. There are ton of architectural patterns to make this work

Thanks for your support.
