Installing Metabase on Windows PC

Hi,

a few questions:

Can we install and run Metabase on our local PC? after Installing Ububtu, Docker, …..

Our database server in behind a jump server. Can Metabase access through jump server? we created user in our database wit view privilege.

If we decide to get a server ourself — and install and use Metabase on that server – is Docker needed?

Thanks,

Mark

You can run Metabase from a .jar file with any Java 25 JVM native in Windows, if you like. Docker is completely optional.

Metabase supports using SSH tunneling to connect to a datawarehouse, if that’s what you mean by “jump server.”

Thanks again for your prompt reply…..

a follow up question

our database in hosted in AWS

it is a private Mysql

Do we need to add Load Balancer in AWS for this access (Metabase to Mysql)?

Appreciate your reply.

That depends a lot on the network architecture in your VPC. Whatever method you choose, restrict access to the DB port to only where Metabase connects from, MySQL is not public Internet safe.
