Changes to the Query Builder UI Makes Searching for Tables Difficult

Hi folks,

I'm find that the recent changes to how data is selected when creating a new question makes finding the correct tables much more difficult. It used to be that you could select a database and schema, then search within that schema to find a table. Now it appears that you can only search globally and not within a specific database / schema? Is it possible to enable searching within a specific database / schema?

Alex,

Am I correct to assume that you're in version 50?

Hi leeloo,

Yes we are on version 50

Thank you! We have shared your feedback with the product team.

Hi @alex.ostojic, thank you for your feedback!

In this Loom you can take a first look at a solution for this. Please let us know if this solves your issue (so we can ship this!) or if you have any additional feedback.

Hi @alessio, this feature looks great and certainly helps address our issues!

Generally the complaint from our users is that it's hard to find the raw datasets when using search. This is often because other users will save questions that have the name of the dataset in the title (I believe that this is the placeholder title that Metabase creates) and these questions seem to have priority in the search function. Some other suggestions that would help us here would be the ability to filter the search by object type (table, question or dashboard) and the ability to verify raw datasets.

This looks useful but my feedback would be that if I've already clicked on the "Models" tab, then I enter a search term, it should only return models. In the example questions are returned too.

If I select Models > Metabase analytics, then search, I would expect to get back only models (recursively) under Metabase analytics.

Thank you @alex.ostojic and @notrom for your feedback, much appreciated!
