I’m working with two separate Oracle databases connected to Metabase. One is an old database hosted at X.y.Z.6, and the other is the current production database hosted at X.Y.Z.62.
I need to combine historical and current data to build a continuous trendline in Metabase. Specifically, I need data from the old database for 2024 and data from the production database for 2025 and 2026.
The challenge is that when writing a native SQL query, Metabase requires me to select one database connection before executing the query. This means I cannot directly query both databases in the same SQL question using something like UNION ALL.
I’ve also explored using saved questions, but I haven’t found a way to join questions that originate from separate database connections.
My questions are:
-
Is there a built-in Metabase feature or workaround that allows a single question to retrieve data from two separate database connections?
-
Is it possible to combine saved questions from different database connections into a single chart or continuous time series?
-
If this is not supported natively, are there any practical workarounds that do not require server access or changes to the underlying databases?
