Metabase does not send every configured alert

Hi, everyone! I have a self-hosted version of Metabase set up. I set up several alerts, but at the scheduled time, Metabase sent only some of the configured alerts. You can find more detailed information in the logs I’ve attached below.

There you can see that I set up alerts with IDs 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, and 23. When the time came, alerts 17, 18, 20, and 23 were triggered. I had also set up automatic deletion of the alert after the trigger was activated. Well, according to the logs, only 4 triggers fired—those alerts were delivered and deleted—while 3 triggers did not fire—those alerts were not delivered but were removed from the subscriptions!

So, I'm asking for advice from the community on how to fix this issue with Metabase. Please help me find the cause.

I had a similar issue at a customer the other day. Turned out that they were subtracting dates to get an interval (this is postgres). That interval was displayed correctly as a question, but in an alert it tried to convert the text representation of an interval to an integer and threw an error.

May not be your problem but worth looking in the Metabase logs for any odd errors when the events fire.

Hi Andrew! Thanks for your reply, but it seems like your case is not my problem.
After detailed analysis of the Tasks section and the Run section within it, I discovered two things that surprised and concerned me:

The metabase does not display logs related to failed attempts to send notifications. I can only see successful attempts.
When I opened the Tasks section and went to the Runs tab, I saw the statuses of all my alerts, some of which were failed. Upon closer inspection of the Run, I found that the “channel-send” task had failed, specifically with the error: “URLs referring to hosts that supply internal hosting metadata are prohibited.” This seems very strange to me, since I correctly configured the URL for my webhook in the notification settings. Moreover, this same notification is delivered without any errors at other times.

If you’re on the latest release, there’s an Alerts Management section in admin/tools. that’s where I started.

I had the same error when creating a webhook. I can’t remember the details but it was just a daft typo.

This error pops up if the webhook URL points to a non-global address, usually something like localhost. (There is a security check to keep Metabase from making malicious HTTP calls.) Make sure your webhook settings are correct. There is a config setting to change the enforcement of that domain check, though I’m having trouble finding it at the moment.

Thanks for the reply. But I know it. I putted a real IP address of my notification server, like this http://xx.225.44.132:8081/
And second thing, same alert was sent and delivered when triggered manually from the alert settings.

Hi everyone! I’ve solved the problem. I have several Metabase instances running on a shared application database. Alerts were distributed across different nodes, but MB_HTTP_CHANNEL_HOST_STRATEGY=allow-private was only applied on one node. As a result, some nodes allowed the webhook to the server’s IP address, while others blocked it as a private host.

After adding the following to all servers:

Environment="MB_HTTP_CHANNEL_HOST_STRATEGY=allow-private"

and restarting all Metabase instances, the configuration became consistent across all nodes. Now all alerts are coming as configured.
